Challenge
Bittrex was one of the best-known crypto exchanges in the United States, built for professional traders on desktop. It had no mobile app, and the market was moving to the phone. The brief was to bring the full exchange to iOS and Android without stripping it down: real order books, real charts, real speed, for people who trade every day.
Solution
We designed and built the Bittrex mobile app end to end: UX strategy, wireframes, visual design and development for both platforms, plus the web app that shared the same system. A dark, data-dense interface where markets, holdings and orders are one tap apart, and where a first-time user can still buy their first Bitcoin with a card in one short flow through Instant Buy.
Approach
We mapped the flows a trader needs, from onboarding and identity verification to market detail, limit and stop orders, holdings and account security. Wireframes came first, then visual design, then a build on one component system so features like Instant Buy and the redesigned first-run experience could ship as Bittrex 2.0 without breaking the core.
Results
The Bittrex app launched on iOS in December 2019 and on Android shortly after, followed by the Bittrex 2.0 release in 2020 with Instant Buy and a new onboarding. Bittrex wound down in 2023, so the app is no longer available. The work remains one of our most complete mobile products.
